Honeywell Transponder Helps Guard Government Security Systems From Cyber Attacks

UHS-1500 Device Features Redundant Ethernet Communications and Advanced Cryptography

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Sept. 15, 2009 – Honeywell (NYSE: HON) today released the UHS-1500 device for its Vindicator® V5 access control and intrusion detection systems, which are primarily used to protect government and military installations. The UHS-1500 features dual Ethernet ports that provide physical and logical redundancy, a critical capability for end users who must protect mission-critical facilities from the increasing threat of cyber attacks.

The device also simplifies system installation and minimizes associated costs with its additional sensor inputs and ability to consolidate field inputs and outputs. This makes the UHS-1500 a low-cost upgrade for existing UHS-6842, UHS-8400, and DES6842T units and enables users to leverage their existing network infrastructure and connect more sensors to the Vindicator systems.

“End users in the government and military spaces are looking for more cost-effective ways to gather and relay sensor data to better protect their facilities,” said Mike Bliss, senior channel marketing manager, Honeywell. “The UHS-1500 demonstrates Honeywell’s commitment to helping our customers protect their mission-critical facilities and preserve their investments in existing security solutions at the same time.”

In addition to dual Ethernet ports, the device uses advanced cryptography to reduce the threat of data being captured or compromised. To secure communications between field devices and Vindicator’s V5 controller, the UHS-1500 can use either TDEA encryption or the new AES encryption that was recently implemented by the Department of Defense to meet heightened encryption requirements.

The device also reduces cost by supporting fourteen sensor inputs – six more than previous versions – to capture additional field signals, and offers expanded buffering to speed processing time and decrease communication bottlenecks. Finally, an on-board service port that connects directly to a laptop in the field to allow configuration and troubleshooting, which means users can avoid having to bring in the unit from the field and connect to a PC.

Honeywell will demonstrate the UHS-1500 at ASIS International 2009. For more information, visit www.honeywellvindicator.com.
