Honeywell Introduces GSM-Enabled LYNX Plus Security System; Helps Dealers Close More Business With Rising Number of Cell-Only/ VOIP-Dependent Homes
LYNX Plus is the Industry’s First Device to Offer Internal GSM Radio,
MELVILLE, N.Y., Jan. 21, 2010 – Honeywell (NYSE: HON) today introduced LYNX
Plus, the security industry’s first self-contained wireless residential system
that internally supports two-way voice capabilities over GSM and an integrated
signal-strength meter. LYNX Plus is a combination control panel, keypad, siren,
dialer, two-way voice system and speakerphone. The sleek device supports an
internal GSM radio enabling dealers to offer RMR-generating services, including
Honeywell’s suite of Total Connect remote services, which allows homeowners to
manage their security systems and receive alerts from Web-enabled and mobile
devices.
LYNX Plus can communicate using standard phone lines, IP transmission and
GSM. The GSM capability is delivered with an internal plug-in radio that enables
two-way voice sessions between homeowners and central stations during
emergencies. These capabilities increase sales opportunities with customers who
don’t use traditional phone lines for communication.
“The fast-rising number of cell phone-only and VOIP-dependent homes
represents a tremendous challenge for security dealers, both from a sales and
support perspective,” said Al Lizza, senior manager product marketing for
Honeywell. “Traditional dialer-based alarm systems already don’t work in
one-in-five U.S. homes. Dealers who have not installed GSM-enabled systems,
therefore, can expect attrition rates to skyrocket. Standardizing on LYNX Plus
with a GSM radio allows dealers to address the security needs of any household,
and to reduce lifetime support costs and attrition.”
LYNX Plus offers a host of new features to reduce installation time and
costs, including:
- A GSM signal strength indicator that allows dealers to easily position the
device for best location
- A bright, easy-to-read custom backlit alpha display provides system status
in plain English with voice annunciation that reduces training time and
support calls
- One hardwired zone and a hinged cover that enable cleaner, faster, less
costly installations
LYNX Plus also helps dealers differentiate themselves and generate
incremental RMR through Total Connect Remote Services. This popular suite of web
and mobile applications allows homeowners to remotely arm and disarm their
security systems. The system can also send emails to alert homeowners to both
critical and non-critical events, such as a child returning home from school.
When utilized with devices such as motion detectors, IP video cameras, asset
protection and environmental sensors, homeowners can use Total Connect to see a
comprehensive picture of events inside and outside their homes.
