Honeywell's New Touchscreen Controller Combines Security with Automation and Lifestyle
Tuxedo Touch Allows Dealers to Offer Cost-Effective Energy Savings by Controlling Security, Temperature, Lighting and More on a Single Device
MELVILLE, N.Y., Jan. 23, 2012 – Honeywell (NYSE: HON) today released the
Tuxedo Touch™, a touchscreen controller that combines security and lifestyle
technology by allowing home and business owners to centrally control both
security and automation functions such as temperature, lighting and more. With a
bright, full-color, 7-inch display, Tuxedo Touch uses a built-in controller that
communicates with devices such as thermostats, lighting controls, shades and
locks via the Z-Wave® communications protocol. Additionally, a built-in web
server gives users the ability to control the system using Wi-Fi-enabled devices
including smartphones, tablets, PCs and Internet TVs, regardless of operating
system.
Tuxedo Touch is Honeywell’s latest addition to its portfolio of “connected
home” products that give low voltage professionals the ability to grow their
businesses by incorporating more lifestyle capabilities into security offerings.
Dealers and end users can easily program the system to fit individual
lifestyles. For instance, the system can be programmed to set back thermostats
and close shades whenever a homeowner leaves for the day. Business owners can
program it to engage various lighting, locking and HVAC systems upon disarming
the security when opening a store.
Besides controlling various security and environmental functions, Tuxedo
Touch allows users to view local weather information, upload digital photos and
videos, simultaneously view streaming feeds from up to four IP video cameras,
and create and display messages for household members or employees. The device
is also compatible with Honeywell’s popular Total Connect™ remote interactive
service, which allows home and business owners to access their security systems
from any Internet-enabled device.
“Lifestyle is valued more than ever today, which is why security systems in
both the home and business are expanding beyond life safety requirements into
the connected home environment,” said Rob Puric, director of Residential
Marketing for Honeywell. “People want simplicity, and Tuxedo Touch achieves that
by combining protection, lifestyle and energy savings in an easy-to-use manner.
This is truly the most cost-effective device of its kind in the industry.”
Other notable Tuxedo Touch features include a video user guide that explains
how to operate the device right on the display, and compatibility with
Honeywell’s widely used line of VISTA control panels.
